About the Founder
I experienced poverty and hunger after the department where I worked closed in 1981. I was unable to find employment and lost everything. I crossed that line where without the help of others I would have never been able to rise above poverty.
The most severe form of poverty I experienced was hunger-it was one of the loneliest and desperate feelings I ever experienced. I was able to adjust to most of poverty better than I expected, but hunger was the most difficult. It was very hard for me to feel the love of Jesus, or anyone, when I had not had food for a few days.
I promised the Lord that if I ever was able to rise above my poverty conditions I would never forget, and I never did. I learned valuable lessons at that time. I WAS ABLE TO RISE OUT OF POVERTY BECAUSE A FEW PEOPLE DID NOT JUDGE OR IGNORE ME, BUT REACHED OUT TO HELP. They gave me food, work, acceptance, and love. I was able to go back to school and graduate as a Registered Nurse.
Missions trips to the third world exposed me to poverty on a large scale. The scope of poverty is so vast and severe that it is easy to become overwhelmed and feel hopeless to do anything about it-But I always think back to when I was poor-if it was not for the help of a few people I would have never been able to rise out of poverty. That is how it works, one person reaching out to another with love and respect weather directly or through organizations. So much human potential is never realized because someone did not reach out. There are many ways of “reaching out” My hope is that as you explore this website and see the photos you will pray to God to open your heart to the needs of the poor and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit in your actions.
